Railway Welfare Van Facilities an SM UK priority!
Updated: Feb 28, 2022
We are delighted to be at the RailLive event on the 22nd - 23rd June 2022 in Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre, Warwickshire.
SM UK have created a comprehensive list of van conversion designs for mobile welfare facilities, ready to ensure that a trackside project is fully compliant with the relevant health and safety laws.
From the innovative command centre to the traditional robust welfare van. At SM UK we are fully aware of the difficulties for providing environmentally safe, clean, and legally compliant welfare facilities on a rail project, particularly when staff are working in a remote location or where the terrain means getting trackside becomes an impossible task for a static container.
Our units not only provide the required HSE facilities but also an ability to transport seven workers to trackside without the problems associated with a static unit.
What’s more, our in-house design team have considered all of the challenging elements that come with designing units specifically for the rail sector, and notwithstanding the enormity of the task or the understanding of how remote some of the track side jobs can be, we genuinely believe that we have created the next level eco welfare unit specifically for the rail industry.
Steve MacDonald said: “Some of our van conversions are all individually manufactured for the rail and trackside market which means that our railway welfare units are easy to manoeuvre regardless of the terrain, or other noticeable challenges”.
The rail welfare vans’ LED lighting, solar panels, ‘air’ heating, and fuel-saving battery generator. This means that you do not need to worry about the environmental impact of these road-to-rail eco vans.
The law states clearly that clients and contractors have a responsibility regarding railway welfare facilities when working on trackside projects.
Contractors must provide adequate welfare facilities at all stages of every project. This must also be adhered to by the client, following on from their pre-construction information that include welfare provision arrangements.
On notifiable projects (over 30 days or 500+ person days), the client must ensure their phase does not begin until they are completely satisfied with the welfare arrangements and facilities.
The nature and scale of facilities required will depend on the size, location, and type of project. Contractors must maintain such facilities throughout the life of the project.
Welfare Vans include:
Facilities for rest
Note: Some rail projects may have individual welfare requirements.
All of our railway welfare vans adhere to HSE Compliance, it is vitally important to check the requirements for your projects, to ensure that your workers have access to all necessary facilities.
